An impact test is used to observe the mechanics that a material exhibits when subjected to an impact load that causes the test sample to immediately deform, fracture, or be destroyed.
The purpose of an impact test is to determine the ability of the sample to absorb energy during a collision. This energy can be used to determine hardness, impact strength, fracture resistance, impact resistance, depending on the type of test performed and the characteristic to be determined. These values are important for the selection of materials used in applications where the material must undergo very rapid loading processes, such as vehicle collisions.
